damp earth below her feet
"At the entrance, my bare feet on the dirt floor, Here, gusts of heat; at my back, white clouds. I stare and stare. It seems I was called for this: To glorify things just because they are."
“Set me down over here in the grass.” Vivian let her down, slowly. Sitting sideways with her legs tucked underneath her, Madeline took in a giant breath of fresh air. It felt like ages since she last had been outside. Of course, she had no prior memory to base her last experience of the outside, but it was wonderful none the less. She smiled hugely, watching the ripples of the pond caused by jumping frogs and swimming tadpoles. It was heavenly.
She noticed Vivian had taken of running around the pond, half jumping, half dancing with delight. Laughing, Madeline called out, “What are you doing?” She laughed even harder, and soon realized she was happy. Actually happy. The first moment of true happiness she had since she had woken up.
“I’m not sure, this just feels wonderful,” she giggled to Madeline. Smiling into the warm sun she continued, “I think I used to go outside a lot before…this.” She replied slowly.
Vivian slowly walked over to some of the trees next to Madeline. She felt like there was a force that she couldn’t see pulling her over to them. When she reached them she placed her hand on the bark and shut her eyes. She felt a warm safe feeling rush into her and she sighed.
